Solar Science & Astronomy

Ultraviolet Detector Bracelet

Walk-Up Format; Workshop Duration: ~10 minutes

While making their color changing, UV detecting bead bracelet, creators will learn about how to be safe in the sun. This workshop includes the opportunity for attendants to safely view the sun using ScienceSouth’s solar viewing telescopes and/or sun spotter!  Note: visibility of the sun and its surface features using the solar scope and sun-spotter is contingent upon weather and solar activity.

Sun Print Paper Art

Scheduled Format; Workshop Duration: ~15 minutes

Creators will develop prints using sunlight and water. This activity works best under sunny conditions and well under cloudy skies. ScienceSouth will bring either a solar telescope or sun-spotter for festival attendants to safely view the sun. Marbled Sun Painting

Scheduled Format; Workshop Duration: ~15 minutes

Our sun is a ball of plasma! Artists will replicate the swirls and prominences ejected from the sun by creating a beautiful marbled painting.
