When you wish upon a star…

For that dream that seems so far. Close your eyes and hold on tight for your wish is in sight.

At ScienceSouth, we are wishing for a brighter future for the children of the Pee Dee. We inspire, educate, and entertain the next generation of scientists and the next generation of employees. We make science fun! We take our mobile labs to classrooms all over Florence, Darlington, Marlboro, Dillon, and Marion counties. Hands-on, minds-on demonstrations and experiments that are curriculum and standards based are our specialty. We also train teachers of these curiosity filled children so that they, too, can carry inspiration into their classrooms.

In March 2008, we opened our first permanent facility at Freedom Florence on Jefferies Creek. At the facility, we have field trips from schools and community organizations, such as the Boys and Girls Club. Summer camps were the rage this year among the 8-12 year olds, and Weekend Workshops had families working together to make science fun. Homeschool Fridays, ScienceSaturdays, and birthday parties have filled our fall with families and fun.

April 25, 2009 we will have our first “Mad Scientist Gala.” The purpose of the gala is to introduce the community to ScienceSouth and have an entertaining event to raise funds for future sustainability. The evening is sure to be a hit with music from the Woody’s. Delightful delectables and mouthwatering libations will be “out of this world!”

In this time of economic instability, we recognize that funds are tight. That is why we have created “Galileo’s Galaxy” – a tribute to the International Year of Astronomy and sponsorship of the Mad Scientist Gala. We propose to give you a lot of “bang” for your buck! A donation of only $500 will get your name on a star in our “galaxy” – the inside “wall” of ScienceSouth. The stars stay up all year round for everyone to see who comes in our door throughout the year. Individuals or companies can make donations.

In celebration of the International Year of Astronomy, we will feature Galileo’s Galaxy all year at ScienceSouth. The purpose is to recognize our supporters and create a visual around the perimeter of the pavilion as the “galaxy.”
