Homeschool Science Academy: Now in session!

Looking for new and innovative ways to teach your K-12 student science? Well look no further than ScienceSouth’s Homeschool Science Academy! We have a range of programs that are sure to meet you and your student’s needs.

Grade K-8 Programs
Our K-8 programs are offered every first and third Friday of the month, with the exception of November and December. The cost is $10/child for two hours of workshops. There must be a minimum of ten children registered each Friday for the workshop to take place. We can accommodate up to 30 children per workshop session. Workshops begin promptly at 9:00 am and conclude at 11:00 am.

Grade 9-12 Programs
For the 2011-2012 school year we will offer hands-on laboratory programs in biology and chemistry for 9th-12th graders. Each track covers 10 lab sessions, and classes will meet from 9:00-11:30 am on the last Friday of every month from August 2011 to May 2012, unless there is a conflict (i.e. holiday or inclement weather). The cost is $200 for the 10 labs or $20 per lab. ScienceSouth will offer a $50 discount to families registering more than one child for high school labs.

The biology curriculum being used is the “Exploring Creation with Biology” 2nd edition from Apologia. The chemistry curriculum being used is “Exploring Creation with Chemistry” 2nd edition from Apologia. Please note that not every experiment in the textbook is covered. ScienceSouth has evaluated the experiments and determined which are most appropriate for the module being covered. In some cases experiments are not conducted, in other cases a more appropriate ScienceSouth experiment is substituted.

ScienceSouth staff will guide the students through the experiments and activities listed on the schedule. The students will be expected to come to each session having read and studied the module being covered. Prior knowledge of the material covered in the labs will aide the student in successful completion of the labs.

The labs are not graded. Students will not receive a grade for their work. If a lab grade is required, we can assign a grade based on attendance and completion of the work.
