Clyburn to Announce Funding for ScienceSouth
Posted Monday, April 6, 2009
Florence, SC, April 6, 2009—Congressman James Clyburn will be at ScienceSouth in Florence on
Thursday, April 9, 2009 to announce that the organization is the recipient of $500,000 of
congressionally directed funding through the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Clyburn will make the formal announcement of these funds at the ScienceSouth Pavilion at
Freedom Florence on Thursday from 11:00-11:30 am.
“We are honored that Congressman Clyburn will be coming to the ScienceSouth Pavilion,”
said Dick Powell, executive director of ScienceSouth. “He attended the groundbreaking and
now he gets to see the finished product.”
“The congressman and all of our elected government representatives have been great supporters
of ScienceSouth from its earliest days. In these economic times, these funds are very timely
for the continued growth of ScienceSouth,” Powell said. “We look forward to continuing to
deliver high-quality hands-on science programs to the children, youth, and teachers of the
Pee Dee region. Plus, extending our outreach to several more school districts along the
I-95 corridor is part of our strategic plan.”
Also invited to this announcement are the ScienceSouth Operating Board and Advisory Board,
S.C. Senator Hugh Leatherman, Mayor Stephen Wukela, U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham and Jim
DeMint, and Congressman John Spratt.
