"ScienceSouth, through strategic partnerships has found a way to engage our children in life-long learning, invention, and problem solving. They have created a prototype to inspire, educate, entertain and challenge children in fields that are often avoided."
ScienceSouth on Jeffries Creek is now open to inspire, educate, and entertain you! The science pavilion,
located near Freedom Florence, offers families the opportunity to do real science in our minds-on, hands-on
workshops. Adults and children can come work together in workshops the whole family will enjoy!
Every six weeks ScienceSouth Pavilion on Jeffries Creek will present a range of new science workshops.
Guided by our team of science specialists, parents and children use scientific equipment to learn, build
or design. From paper making and dissecting flowers to bug hunts and building model planes, every visit
to the pavilion is sure to be an adventure.
Families can come take part in our fun activities each weekend and every day during school breaks. Space
is limited, so we encourage you to book early to guarantee your slot. The ScienceSouth Pavilion can also
be booked on weekdays for science-based field trips by schools, groups and home schoolers.
Why not let our ScienceSouth presenters lead your employees through a different sort of professional
development? Take time out of the office to brainstorm and build team cohesion by spending a few hours at
the ScienceSouth Pavilion. We will work with your needs to involve your team in hands on activities and
allow use of our boardroom for more formal discussion. Any revenue generated through corporate events
will go directly toward the provision of science related programming in the Pee Dee region. To find out

ScienceSouth Pavilion at Jeffries Creek is NOW OPEN!
October 17, 2007—ScienceSouth began construction on a Phase One facility, near Jeffries Creek at Freedom
Florence, which has now become the base of ScienceSouth operations. This is an exciting step forward. For the
past six years all of ScienceSouth’s operations took place from generously donated office space at Roche Carolina.
Last year in a partnership with the City of Florence, ScienceSouth entered into a long-term lease for 35 acres of
property along the city’s green space, Jeffries Creek. This outstanding location offers many opportunities for
visitors to interact with science and the environment. The site and the new facility have enabled us to launch
new and exciting science and technology workshops for adults and children. The new building will also serve as
the home for ScienceSouth’s growing outreach programming, which includes the McLeod Health Mobile Lab and the
Sen. Hugh K. Leatherman Mobile Lab.
The Phase One facility is 5000 square feet with 2500 square feet of dedicated flexible learning space.
ScienceSouth is now proud to be able to feature fun, educational workshops with topics ranging from electronics
to aeronautics. “These programs are very hands on. For example, scale airplane workshops will be available.
Visitors will be designing, building, testing their own designs,” said Project Manager Perry Gauthier of
ScienceSouth. “There’s a sense of achievement that comes from building something. The workshops we are running
involve the types of activity that both parents and children remember for many years. Building and working
together on projects is a powerful shared learning activity.”
