About Us

ScienceSouth is a non-profit educational institution based in Florence, South Carolina. Through its programs ScienceSouth creates innovative, enjoyable learning experiences, which engage people in life-long learning, invention and problem solving.

Established in 2000 by a group of educators and business leaders seeking to address the science and technology education gap, ScienceSouth’s mission is to advance scientific understanding and increase the competitiveness of future generations.

ScienceSouth launched outreach programming in 2003. Since that time our programs have expanded to include ScienceSouth's Summer Science Challenge Camps, live science shows, and Science on Wheels outreach programs. The ScienceSouth on Wheels outreach program has proven to be effective at enlisting high levels of participation from rural and city schools.

On 28th March 2008 ScienceSouth opened the ScienceSouth Pavilion at 1511 Freedom Boulevard, near Freedom Florence in the heart of Florence, South Carolina. The Pavilion allows tourists and members of the community to take part in hands-on science workshops. Getting to grips with real science in a range of constantly changing “make-it and take-it” workshops.

ScienceSouth intends to extend our vision by developing a permanent ScienceSouth Center, which will engage 125,000 individuals per year through the creation of innovative, enjoyable, learning experiences.
